logo.gif (4634 bytes)Rockstar is being more than a little tight lipped about Vice City, but heres what we know so far. Vice City promises the same in-depth, sophisticated gameplay as the beloved GTA 3. According to Rockstar officials: "Vice City not GTA 4, its not a GTA3 upgrade. Vice City is its own game".

Vice City will be set at an unknown time in the1980s. Expect to see lots of vintage 80s cars and, especially, 1980s music. As for ambience, think Miami Vice with a Rockstar twist.

Its not much to go on, but there is still reason to be excited. Rockstar was evasive about GTA 3 at last years E3 show, and then they dropped one of the greatest games ever made in our lap. This year they are telling us well have Vice City "When its ready, but trust us. This is going to be good", and trust them I do. Rockstar representatives said the game has been in development since GTA3 has been out, and they are more than happy to remain secretive. Stay tuned to GamesFirst! for future updates.

WWE SMACKDOWN SHUT YOUR MOUTH

i bit this hurt!Hogan brother!!im whoo ric whoo flair

what! stac.what! stacykeibler the legs!

First Look:

If you hadnt noticed gamersresource is somewhat bias towards wrestling games (notable by the constant presence of WWF Smackdown: Just bring It in picks of the week), so I couldnt wait to deliver you the news you had all been waiting for you (wellall those of you who dont see wrestling as fat men in lycra dancing)the announcement of WWF Smackdown 4. Or at least it would have been, except that with the recent Getting the F out, it is WWE Smackdown: Shut your mouth which is on the way to all PS2 owner. And I cant wait.

Those who bought Just Bring It were generally a bit annoyed as apart from eight men in the ring and graphical improvements, there was very little difference between it and its Playstation 1s predecessors. The Hell in the Cell was still not full sized, collision detection involving weapons and tables was still dodgy and there was the notable absence of the Alliance superstars such as Booker T and Rob Van Dam.

Well, to answer the first question all of you want to knowyes they are. The WWFsorry WWE roster is up to date as of Wrestlemania at its current stage, though expect this to be improved as development of the game proceeds, with the WWE brand extension apparently being incorporated into the Story Mode . From the early shots though, new roster additions include Hogan, RVD, Booker T, DDP, Ric Flair and Stacy Keibler. The Undertaker has short hair, Steve Austin says What a lot and Stephanie has her..wellassets intact!

The graphics are drastically improved too, with the virtual wrestlers baring an astonishing resemblance to their real-life counterparts. Sadly though these improved graphics have come at a cost, with only six wrestlers being on screen at once, rather than the eight of Just Bring It. Shut Your Mouth's engine appears to be a descendant of the previous games', rather than an all-new piece of technology, but it retains the excellent animation that has been a hallmark of the series, and its texturing and lighting have received the expected tune-up. Cinematic animations appear to be a little more realistic, and character models have greater detail. In particular, wrestlers with long hair such as Kevin Nash and Chris Jericho are modelled with more care. So no more hair vanishing into the wrestlers neck then. Faces look a little more authentic, too, especially Booker T.

The biggest visual improvements in the game as shown so far are the expanded cinematics in Story Mode. The trailer shows chokeslams off the Hell in the Cell cage, RVD and Chris Jericho tipping over the ladder in an I-C title match, Steve Austin driving a pickup truck down the entrance ramp, Vince spanking Stacy, Rob Van Dam diving off the Rebellion entrance set, and a much wider variety of interviews and confrontations, as well as settings for those cinemas. It is, as always, hard to tell how much has been done for the trailer and how much will actually appear in the game (remember Jericho dropkicking the ladder into Benoit?) but for now, it looks pretty darn cool.

Another notable improvement is with the crowd, which finally is in 3D (in the accessible areas at least). The models aren't all that detailed, but it's a definite improvement over Just Bring It. That's the most obvious graphical upgrade, although the character models do look, as we say, incrementally improved. Some facial expressions and features are distinctly better, though -- RVD in particular has a well-defined face. The animation is a blend of old and new, with some that are very recognizable (the old dizziness animation is definitely held over) and some others that are new. The selection of reversal animations has improved, including a very funny Hogan reversal. Instead of just blocking a punch, he takes it, no-sells, and does the old Hulk-up/"Ah-ah-ah!" finger-pointing routine.

Much more attention has been paid to the stadium as well, with every single PPV arena being designed for the game, plus backstage areas apparently modeled on Madison Square Garden. More than 14 different pay-per-view arenas are included along with the Raw/SmackDown/Heat sets. Specific names noted are Backlash, Vengeance, and Unforgiven. The UK-only Rebellion PPV set was also shown in THQ's trailer movie. Twice the commentary is also promised, though whether this is a good thing or a bad thing I am not sure. Hopefully King and JR will make it in somewhere, even if just commentating on RAW and PPV matches.

New match types are to include Elimination Tag (competitors are removed from the match as they are pinned like Survivor Series matches), Slobberknocker Anywhere (a backstage version of the endurance match from earlier SmackDowns), and Captain Fall Tornado Six-Man Tag which sounds like a version of Mexican trios rules, where a three-man team can be defeated by pinning the one wrestler chosen as its captain.

In general, foreign object behaviour is more versatile and simple. Now you can set up a table in the corner for an Irish whip or something like Tazz's table suplexes (maybe Rhynos Gore?). Multiple characters can ascend the ladder, and it's apparently possible to pull off moves like the Walls of Jericho at the top of the ladder, as in Just Bring It. You can also interact with the rails, running along them or jumping off to perform aerial movess (like the Hardy Boyz rail-run).

Details of the Story and Create-A-Wrestler modes are virtually non existent at the moment, except the promise that both are to be improved, which can only be a good thing as far as story mode is concerned (maybe more than three matches this timeehTHQ). Of course, things are in an early stage and no doubt there will be many more screenshots appearing in the next half a year. Till then, know your role, Shut your mouth and quit using wrestling catchphrases as a finishing sentence to a wrestling game preview. Err.Sucka!
